Black families need to be visible and tell their stories. Unfortunately, in most cases, society’s portrayal of the Black family is negative, which leads to a misunderstanding of who these individuals are and what they experience daily.

The Black family has been historically misrepresented in media. However, there are incredible Black filmmakers, writers, producers and actors in media who are bringing a different view of the Black community and representation is increasing.

The truth is Black families come in every shape and size. Despite being historically underrepresented and marginalised, now more than ever, there is a thriving Black community filled with diversity, a rich history and heritage, and to top it all off, with financially and emotionally stable families.
